ASA 3D Plastic: Description and Printing Parameters
ASA (Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate) is a durable and environmentally friendly 3D printing plastic with excellent mechanical properties and UV stability. It is a popular choice for outdoor applications and functional products because it combines strength with environmental resistance.
Main Properties of ASA Plastic:
- Durability : High impact resistance, making it suitable for mechanical parts or tools.
- Environmental resistance : Excellent resistance to UV rays, heat and moisture - ideal for outdoor use.
- Chemical resistance : Resistant to many chemicals such as oils and greases.
- Smooth surface : ASA provides a smooth, matte surface with minimal layer markings.
- Low Warpage Rate : Compared to ABS, ASA is less prone to warping and shrinkage, making it easier to print.
Areas of use:
- Outdoor components: garden tools, vehicle parts, signs.
- Functional prototypes or final products that require strength and UV resistance.
- Electronics housings and enclosures.
ASA Recommended Print Settings:
- Diameter : 1.75 mm
- Weight : 0.850 kg net (without reel)
- Spool weight : 0.213 kg
- Printing temperature : 275°C – 280°C
- Bed temperature : 90°C – 110°C
- Printing speed : 40–60 mm/s
- Cooling fan : Off or set to low speed (if necessary when printing suspended parts).
- Table adhesion : Use PEI sheet, Kapton tape, glue stick, or ABS/ASA mix to prevent warping.
- Print chamber : It is recommended to use a closed and/or heated chamber to ensure temperature stability and reduce warping.
Post-Printing Processing:
- ASA is suitable for processing by grinding or using acetone vapor to obtain a smooth surface.
- Plastic can be glued using regular glue if assembly is required.
Advantages compared to ABS:
- Better resistance to environmental influences and UV rays.
- Less chance of deformation.
- Similar strength and flexibility.
